I used to believe that, as the so-called "beacon of democracy", the United States—if nothing else—should at least maintain a semblance of leadership on the international stage.

However, ever since Donald Trump came to power, he has repeatedly disrupted the rules-based international order, wielding tariffs not only against adversaries but also against allies, with an iron fist of trade bullying. A naked populist authoritarian rose to prominence at the very center of global power—chilling to behold.

In stark contrast, Europe—the cradle of liberty and democracy—continues to safeguard the flame of universal values. While nationalism and extremist ideologies sweep across the globe, Europe refuses to be swept away, choosing instead to defend freedom more resolutely, uphold the rule of law, and embrace diversity.

Europe is the true high ground of civilization.
