Freedom has blossomed across Europe, and Europeans today enjoy liberty and democracy. Yet these values were not granted by nature—they were won through struggle, and they must still be defended against those who seek to destroy them. As a human rights activist persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party, I have witnessed how China has grown ever darker and more authoritarian under its rule. I sincerely hope that Europe will stand with the Chinese people in their fight for freedom.
