Hai Kyung Jun, the UNHCR Director for Asia and the Pacific.
Based on your public profile:
Educational Background 1: Seoul National University,
Educational Background 2: Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Your educational background shines brightly. High qualifications often represent high capabilities, a sense of responsibility, and a noble mission. However, in my dealings with the UNHCR over the past ten months, I have come to understand that fame often masks shortcomings.
I have no disrespect for you; I'm just stating my opinion based on facts!
In my previous article, I provided solid evidence of collusion between the UNHCR Thailand branch and the Chinese Communist Party(CCP), This is under your jurisdiction, how can you shirk your responsibility?
I have repeatedly contacted the UNHCR, pleading for a Refugee Status Determination (RSD) interview, and my emails can serve as evidence, yet I've been ignored. Under your jurisdiction, this indifference and inaction—are you not responsible?
I have repeatedly explained to the UNHCR the personal safety threats posed by the CCP, with emails as evidence, yet I've been consistently ignored. Under your jurisdiction, such disregard for human life, how can you shirk responsibility?
I have repeatedly expressed concerns to the UNHCR about the psychological distress faced by my young child in a dangerous environment, with emails as evidence, yet I've been ignored. Such callousness under your jurisdiction, how can you shirk responsibility?
I messaged you on X platform, expressing my situation and suggestions for the UNHCR. Instead of acknowledging, you chose to block me. I understand it's your personal account, but your profile mentions your position at the UNHCR, and the discussion pertains to the UNHCR's work, not personal matters. How is blocking me so brutally different from an authoritarian regime? How is this different from a dictator?
On June 16, 2023, in an interview with The Korean Times, you were introduced as a refugee expert with over twenty years of experience at the United Nations. What irony! A refugee expert who ignores refugees' feedback? A refugee expert who disregards refugees' hardships and suffering? Does merely enduring twenty years qualify one as an expert?
Take a look at the crowds protesting outside the UNHCR's Thailand office; even local bystanders are moved. Yet, why are you indifferent?
I have deep respect for the UNHCR, as it is purportedly an organization dedicated to protecting refugees. But now, I am filled with profound disappointment!
Humanitarian work fundamentally differs from other industries; it requires compassion and the ability to personally listen to and observe refugees' lives, to empathize firsthand, in order to effectively address their issues. How can you obtain firsthand information and conduct targeted work when you distance yourself from refugees and reject their advice?
Of course, I hnow you often attend various meetings, meet with government officials from various countries, and frequently appear in the media spotlight. But how much help does this bring to refugees? I am a persecuted refugee myself, and all I feel is helplessness, heartlessness, and despair.
If you regard this job merely as a means to earn a salary, I advise you to seek other opportunities sooner rather than later, as there are too many refugees facing threats to their lives and enduring unimaginable suffering, potentially losing their lives at any moment!
