As we stand at the threshold of 2025, the world finds itself in a period of profound political transformation. The rise of conservatism, the growing power of extreme forces, and the ongoing conflict in Ukraine are just a small part of the global challenges we face. Over two years have passed since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, yet the free world has not decisively overcome the threat posed by Russia. Even more concerning is that, under the rule of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and Xi Jinping's dictatorship, China remains Russia’s largest supporter, and the international community has failed to impose effective sanctions to hold the CCP accountable for its role in global instability.
The growing totalitarianism of the CCP and Xi Jinping’s increasing dictatorship highlight a tragic reality: the international community, driven by self-interest, has failed to unite in holding the CCP accountable. This inability to act against oppressive regimes is a harsh reflection of the flaws within democratic systems. However, the fall of the Syrian government proves a crucial point: even the most seemingly invincible dictatorships can be overthrown when they lose the support of their people. This gives hope to those living under oppressive regimes, showing that change is possible.
Meanwhile, we see the European Union’s fragmented stance on international issues. Despite being composed of 27 countries, the EU struggles to speak with one voice. Its lack of cohesion makes it vulnerable to manipulation and division by other global powers. In the coming years, Europe must implement fundamental reforms to ensure its collective strength and position itself as a key player in the global order.
The refugee crisis remains one of the most urgent issues of our time. While it is crucial to protect those who genuinely seek refuge, we must also ensure that criminals and false asylum seekers are kept out. A wholesale rejection of refugees is not the answer, but neither is an open-door policy without proper safeguards. Ultimately, the only lasting solution to the refugee crisis is the overthrow of oppressive regimes and the establishment of democratic, stable governments that can provide a secure future for their citizens.
In particular, the Chinese Communist Party, which both represses its people domestically and exports authoritarianism abroad, poses a grave threat to the world. One-fifth of the world’s population lives under the CCP rule, and the regime’s economic exploitation of its people creates ripples of instability that affect the global economy. To defeat global authoritarianism, we must first dismantle the CCP, which serves as the backbone of many other despotic regimes. An authoritarian and dictatorial CCP is the greatest threat to global democracy, whereas a free and democratic China would be a blessing for the world and a crucial step toward a better future for all.
As we welcome 2025, let us reaffirm our commitment to freedom, democracy, and the values that bind us together as a global community. Let us sincerely support the struggles of those who long for a brighter future, and who fight for freedom, democracy, justice, and human dignity.
May the new year bring hope, unity, and the courage to stand against oppression, no matter where it comes from.
Happy New Year to all those who strive for a world of freedom and justice.
